She had a kind and<br \/>\ngenerous spirit, which radiated through her sweet smile.<\/p>\n<p>Born in Akron, Ohio, on August 19, 1928, to the late Walker and Lucille Sommerville. Audrey<br \/>\nwas the third of four children. She was a graduate of East High School. Audrey met Gene, the love of her life in 1945, at a neighborhood youth club on the corner of Homestead and Duane, at the urging of close friend, Bill Clark. They were married on August 6, 1948, at Second Baptist Church by Reverand Stanley Lynton and, as they say, \u201cthe rest is history\u201d. Gene and Audrey were side by side for more than seventy-two years.<\/p>\n<p>Momma enrolled at the University of Akron to assist Gene with his course in Spanish, example<br \/>\nhow Momma had Daddy\u2019s back from day one. After which, she accepted employment with her<br \/>\nAunt Chrisella at Matthews Beauty Shop. Later, Audrey was employed at Yeager\u2019s Department<br \/>\nStore, until she was hired at Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company. Upon discovering the<br \/>\npending arrival of her first child; she became a stay-at-home Mom, until 1970. She was also<br \/>\nvery active in Crouse PTA and served as president for two years. Audrey then went on to work<br \/>\nas a teacher\u2019s aide at Rankin Elementary and Rankin Annex. After retiring, Audrey found that<br \/>\nthe best job she could ever have was to be a supportive, protective, and, loving Wife, Mother,<br \/>\nand Grandmother.<\/p>\n<p>She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers Walker \u201cSpencer\u201d and Robert \u201cBay\u201d<br \/>\nSommerville. Audrey is survived by her devoted husband and best-friend, Gene \u201cDaddy\u201d<br \/>\nScruggs; her children, Bethanne, Phil Kwame \u201cCowboy\u201d Scruggs, and Jan Scruggs-Rookard; her sister, Vivian Flinn of Cincinnati; grandchildren, Imani Scruggs, Daylon, and Quincy Rookard; sister-in-law, Jewel Sommerville; her niece, Cheryl (Stanley) Robinson; nephews, Marco (Debbie) Sommerville, Michael (Audrey) Flinn, and Calvin (Brendalyn) Kennedy; son-in-love, Bruce (Wilma) Alexander; daughter-in-law, Sabrina Scruggs; daughters-in-love, Kim Brown; Rebecca Brown; Deneen Ferris; Felicia (Michael) Gould; and Talisa Dixon.<\/p>\n<p>The Family thanks Momma\u2019s caregivers,<br \/>\nFaye Downs, Camille Dean, and Eli Schoby. All of the team had their own ways of loving on Momma. She always smelled good, looking good in her matching outfits that were a must or\u2026\u2026 and ate good!
