Christine Travis was born June 19, 1942, to the late Harry and Annie Booker in Jackson, Mississippi.<br \/>\nShe joined Pleasant Grove Church at an early age. Rev. Christine Travis has loved and trusted God for<br \/>\nmost of her life. Rev. Travis married Connie Preston Travis Sr. in March 1962 and to this union they had<br \/>\nseven children.<br \/>\nRev. Christine Travis was called to preach on May 16, 1983, licensed to preach at Mt. Sinai Primitive<br \/>\nBaptist church in October 1983, and ordained at the Chapel of Faith Pentecostal Church on December 1,<br \/>\n1985. Rev. Travis fulfilled the great commission by preaching in many states, praying for thousands, and<br \/>\nfeeding and clothing whoever had a need. The Holy Spirit gave her many gifts, such as the gift of healing,<br \/>\nspeaking in tongues with interpretation of tongues, preaching, teaching, and the ability to live the true<br \/>\nand living word daily. Rev. Travis would often say, \u201cI want to live so that God can use me anytime and<br \/>\nanywhere so that both saints and sinners can see the miracles of God.\u201d She is a true servant of the Most<br \/>\nHigh God.\u201d<br \/>\nRev. Travis graduated from Carter High School, The University of Akron, Moody Bible Institute, and Trinity<br \/>\nTheological Seminary. Rev. Travis was a Certified Teacher for Evangelist Teachers and Training<br \/>\nAssociation, Sunday School, and Bible Study. She has planned and implemented many seminars,<br \/>\nworkshops, bible camps and conferences. During her girls&#8217; younger years, she was a Girl Scout Leader and<br \/>\n4H Leader. She authored a book of poems, and loved the game show Jeopardy and was willing to<br \/>\nchallenge anyone that dared. Rev. Travis was the President and Founder of the Akron Clergy Women\u2019s<br \/>\nAlliance and Akron Haiti Mission. Rev. Travis was Pastor of Miracle Revival Church and Associate Pastor<br \/>\nof Chapel of Faith Holiness Church. Serving God has always been her passion.<br \/>\nA favorite quote of Rev. Travis was \u201cThe Spirit of the Lord is upon me because he hath anointed me to<br \/>\npreach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the<br \/>\ncaptives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised. (Luke 4:18) During her<br \/>\nbrief hospital stay she continued to ask, \u201cHave you accepted the Lord Jesus Christ in your heart\u201d.<br \/>\nRev. Christine Travis was preceded in death by parents Harry and Annie Booker, brother Carver Booker,<br \/>\nsisters Alice Harvey, and Betty Curry, grandsons Ronnie, Recardo, Giovanni, Derrick, and Deshawn Travis.<br \/>\nShe leaves to cherish her memory the father of her children Connie Preston Travis, Sisters JoAnn Scott,<br \/>\nand Joyce Booker, brother Johnnie Ray Booker, children Minister Nanette Jackson, Carolyn (Ronnie)<br \/>\nBryant, Elder Sherry (Anthony \u201cGeno\u201d) Meddley, Audrey Wilson, Preston (Sirena) Travis, Kristen (Fred<br \/>\n\u201cMann\u201d) Bryant, and Trina (Craig) McGavock, Grandchildren, Chimere, La\u2019Kisha, Deshawnda, Melvin,<br \/>\nRomeo, DarSharee, Darrika, DarLisa, Andre, Angel, Alan, Jason, Aliyah, Antonique, Johnathan,<br \/>\nJoenathan, Tocarra, Sierra, Presse, Jordan, Chauncy, Christoper, Katrina and Sir Charles, 76 Great<br \/>\nGrandchildren, 17 Great-Great Grandchildren, best friend and prayer partner Gail Bell, special nieces<br \/>\nGwen Noto, and Belinda Frazier and many other family members, friends and loved ones.<\/p>\n<p>Friends may call on Friday, May 3, 2024, from 11:00 am until 12:00 noon at New Spirit Revival Center, 1061 Clearview Ave. Akron, Oh 44320. Funeral service will immediately follow.
