Gettys Alphonso Porter, affectionately known as \u201cPhonso,\u201d was born on May 27, 1967, in Columbia, South Carolina to the late Bernice Porter and James Porter Sr. on June 5, 2025, surrounded by family and friends, Gettys peacefully gained his wings.<\/p>\n
Phonso was truly the life of the party. His joyful spirit, unforgettable smile, and sharp sense of humor left a lasting impression on all who knew him. If you knew Phonso, you knew\u2014his warmth, laughter, and light could not be ignored. He was the kind of man who made even the simplest moment unforgettable.<\/p>\n
Gettys worked as a manager at many restaurants, where he showcased leadership and exceptional skill as a cook. His passion for food and people were the perfect recipe \u2014he loved making meals and memories in equal measure. He never missed an opportunity to lovingly tease his nieces and nephews, he kept them all smiling with his playful behavior and quick wit.<\/p>\n
One of his favorite sayings was, \u201cDo the math and take two Tylenols, and if that doesn\u2019t work\u2014then you know where to go.\u201d Another phrase he often shared, with his characteristic humor, was \u201cSomebody got to live to tell the story.\u201d These words\u2014part wisdom, part mischief\u2014capture his lively spirit and will echo in the hearts of those who loved him.<\/p>\n
Gettys leaves to cherish his memory his special friend, Dianne Williams; daughter, Lacole Watson; son, Lamont Watson; sister, Maryann Walker of Akron, OH; brother, Freddie Porter (Trish Porter) of Akron, OH; nephews, Freddie Porter Jr., Antonio Porter (Pamela Porter) of Columbia, SC, Leon Murray of SC, Harlen Griffin of Akron, OH, Robert Richardson Jr. of Akron, OH, and Joseph Griffin of Akron, OH; nieces, Olivia Griffin of Akron, OH, Andreana Richardson of Akron, OH, and Patricia Porter of Akron, OH; along with a host of grandchildren, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, extended family, and dear friends.<\/p>\n
