Dewitt Herring

Dewitt Herring , 96, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, May 24, 2023. He passed peacefully surrounded by his family. He was born on August 18, 1926 in Clayton, Alabama to OD Herring and Lallie Underwood. He served in World War II and was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post 272 serving as Chaplin for many years and was a lifetime member of the VFW.

Dewitt was a stranger to no one. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend. Dewitt and Bernice celebrated their 69th Wedding Anniversary on April 30, 2023.

Dewitt was preceded in death by his son; Dewitt “Butch” Herring II, and grandson, Dewitt “Trey” Herring III.

He is survived by his loving and devoted wife Bernice, son, Robert (Andrea) Wims; daughters Denise (Delbert) Dyer, Beverly (Meech) Herring, and KiKi Herring; 9 grandchildren, and a host of great-grand children, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
